Know Thy Neighbor

Today my neighbor turned to me and started talking. 50 minutes later the phone rang and my neighbor had to go. Why did I just sit there and listen to it? I looked at the clock once and was going to say "I have to go to a meeting," but my neighbor spoke so fast and obviously wasn't looking for a conversation, but for someone to vent to. I don't mind listening at times, but it seems every time we talk, it turns into a long monologue. I feel like a captive audience.

Today I'm making a chart with colors!

Comments:
Ugh. I hate this part of cubicle life. I deal with this a lot. Luckily, I now work with perceptive, sensitive people (who are still chatty), so they get the impression in a few minutes if they just interrupted your concentration. But still! I have always wanted to post red, yellow or green signs on my back to indicate whether or not anyone is welcome to talk to me while I'm working. Yellow means, "proceed with caution." Which means either that I'm moody, or that it better be important.
